Kino Arts Centre Library, Rye, East Sussex
RIBA South East Regional Award
A multi award winning Grade II Listed building in the heart of Rye, originally built during the Victorian era as a school and later reused as Rye Library.
The client is a local Community Interest Company (CIC) formed to promote the work of playwright John Fletcher, a colleague of William Shakespeare who once lived adjacent to the site. It also promotes all forms of art and performance in Rye, staging shows and exhibitions for the public. The success of these activities brought the need for a permanent base and after purchasing the site the Kino Digital became involved with the project, working in partnership with Fletcher CIC to bring a cinema back to Rye.
