JDA researched and designed a masterplan for a new city development situated adjacent to Bengbu, a city lying midway between Beijing and Shanghai, in Jiangqiao Province. In conjunction with Loop Architects, a detailed government brief was translated into a design for 1,200 new dwellings, a town centre and a light industrial area. The project would include new village settlements, schools, a hospital and other amenities.

The site was master planned with landscaping to take advantage of the site’s river and hills. A natural and sustainable blueprint was set out and visualized that would introduce modern and international standards to the area, and a transport and road system was integrated into the plan. Despite local authority and planning approval being granted, the land changed ownership and the project has not been built.
